InDesign CC Tutorial: Columns with Text

Here’s a refresher for anyone that is familiar (or just starting out with InDesign CC)  How to create columns with text.  I like to work with a tutorial every couple of days to not only refresh my memory, but to also work on my design skills.

Here is what I came up with!

Thanks for looking!

Boxcar disaster display

I was asked to create a display for the Shippensburg Historical Society in Shippensburg, PA for their boxcar museum, Shippensburg Station.  It was fun learning more about the area, trains and helping out this wonderful organization!

Adobe Illustrator Offset Path Tips & Tricks

YouTube videos have become a lifesaver for me.  I have learned so much more about the Adobe software just by watching some of my favorite graphic design YouTubers!  Enjoy this video, from Satori Graphics explaining how to use the offset path function in Adobe Illustrator.

I found it very, very useful and I hope you do as well!

Green with envy

Let’s talk about color theory-one of my favorite subjects!

Growing up, we all had our favorite color, right?  I believe mine was purple.  Along with being obsessed with New Kids on the Block, I had to have purple EVERYTHING.  Clothes, bedding, curtains, you name it!  As I grew older, my favorite colors changed from purple to blue to red.  Since moving to Pennsylvania and falling in love with how green she can become when spring hits and all through the summer, I’m GREEN with envy.

The blahness of winter makes one appreciate when spring arrives and when the trees begin to bud, it makes me feel good.  Green is a cool color and is usually calming and relaxing, so no wonder I feel calm and collective at the first signs of spring.

(My allergies aren’t a fan though, but I try not to pay attention to them when I can.)

According to Smashing Magazine, green represents new beginnings and growth, renewal and abundance.  It also has the same calming effects that blue has (ahhh, blue skies-something we don’t get a lot of in PA!) and has balancing and harmonizing effects.  Check out some of these amazing websites that utilize the color green in their designs.  PayMo and UnderSky are my favorites out of the bunch!

When I think of green, I think of nature.  It would be amazing to be able to work and design for an outdoor company or nonprofit someday!

What are your favorite colors or color to work with? Does green make you feel cool and relaxed?

3D Light Stroke Effects (Adobe After Effects)

I’m new to Adobe After Effects, so I’ve been watching videos online as much as possible to increase my skills for that program.  Just like the other Adobe programs, there is soooooo much you can do with it!  Here is a video from one of my favorite YouTube tutorial channels, Sonduckfilms that shows you how to create a 3D light stroke effect to titles and logos!  Enjoy.
