I’m a procrastinator. Not with everything, but with some things. Like cleaning the house (the bathroom can clean itself, right?) making a phone call, (oh my introvert heart) and while I was in college, writing papers that I absolutely DID NOT want to write.
I grew up loving to read. My mom use to read to me before I went to bed at night. My favorite books were “Green Eggs & Ham” and “A Very Bumpy Bus Ride.” Oh how I loved “A Very Bumpy Bus Ride!” My mom, probably wary of me wanting to her to read it to me every night, could probably recite the entire thing in her sleep. I kept the copy with me always, until it was destroyed in a house fire in 2003. I still need to get another copy of that book.
Since I have competed my BA in Graphic Design and Media Arts, I have been really interested in illustration and writing. This led me to want to illustrate and write a children’s book, but I kept putting it off. Why you ask? Because I didn’t think that it would be good enough and that no one would want to read it. In addition to that, I was being lazy. These are not good combinations, folks! I knew that I am better than this and that I can do it-with my husband being my biggest cheerleader.
Sunday night, I began writing my children’s book. The inspiration? Our pup, Tanner. I have been writing a little at a time, here and there, and I have been telling myself that I can do. Who cares if not everyone likes it? As my fingers hit the keyboard, I feel like I am accomplishing yet another goal in my life that I can’t wait to complete and that I can’t let procrastination, or self-doubt, win.
