I did it.
I set a goal for myself and completed my first design challenge.
It’s not the greatest. It’s not the most complicated design, but I am proud of myself for accomplishing another goal.
This week’s subject was Earth Day. I took to my drawing pad, and sketched out what I wanted my design to look like. I then completed a search on the old Googler and found a color palette that I wanted to use:
I love these colors!
Using Adobe Illustrator, I began designing my 11x 18 poster. I’m not gonna lie, the simplest things took me forever to figure out, such as how to ungroup a vector image and quickly change it’s color palette. I also created my own custom “heart” brush (that I gave myself a high-five for since it took me hours to figure it out, even after watching a video. DOH!) For the typography, I wanted to go with something that looked organic and fit with the Earth Day theme of my poster. Using Typekit, I decided to use Remedy OT Double. I love looking at fonts, but I think that choosing the correct one to use for your design is one of the hardest parts of graphic design! As a designer, do you agree?
Here is the final product.
I am proud of myself for completing this task and I cannot wait to pick another subject to design next week!
Thanks for looking and reading.
